The Renaissance Experimenter

Experimenting has always been the dream of my life. To me there has always been a certain excitement, a rush of "ah insight!" in solving a problem. Perhaps it is just age, however, I feel that science in the 1950's and 60's was a very exciting time. A time when many new frontiers were being explored. This was also a time when it was not possible for me to be directly involved in these endeavors.

Many bold new development were taking place at a time when the hardware necessary to perform many experiments was nonexistent or very crude. I wonder what scientist during that time could have done with, say, an 8080 processor controlling and taking data for an experiment? Well, lets see what can be done. Obviously, we can't change the past, but it sure would be fun to repeat many classic experiments using today's technology. Hence, the renaissance experimenter.

What I am doing is by far and above all for my pleasure and enjoyment. This is my way to enjoy retirement! I don't care that I am repeating experiments, and in the eyes of some, wasting my time. That's not important! What is, is that it gives me a lot of satisfaction, keeps my mind sharp and is surely a lot better than living in a tiny condo in Florida and playing golf all day long. That would drive me insane!
