Situated in the Roosevelt National Forest, in north central Colorado, the observatory is nestled among ponderosa pines, aspens and expansive meadow views. The site offers an excellent place to live, meditate, do research, and enjoy nature at its finest.
This location is well isolated from the nearest town, by a range of mountains to the east. The nearest paved road is three miles to the north. The geology of the area is mostly fractured quartz. This wonderful isolation and terrain, provides an excellent site for a multifunction observatory in seismology, weather, radio and optical astronomy and solar terrestrial environment monitoring.
Nights are usually cool, and the crisp mountain air provides
spectacular views of the heavens. Preliminary tests have shown the site
is quite free of significant radio interference.
